Boris Johnson faces investigation by Electoral Commission that the Tories are trying to AXE

Boris Johnson is facing an investigation by a watchdog the Tories have been trying to axe, having long accused the organisation of being biased and unfairly targeting pro-Brexit campaigners. The Electoral Commission s critics are now seeking to have it abolished and replaced after a series of scandals including its lengthy investigation of numerous Vote Leave officials. The quango was especially criticised for its efforts to prosecute pro-Leave activists Alan Halsall and Darren Grimes, which ended last year in police dropping its investigations following discussions with the Crown Prosecution Service. The case of Mr Grimes, founder of pro-Brexit campaign group BeLeave, who was initially fined £20,000 for allegedly making false declarations over donations, sparked particular anger and resulted in him winning an appeal against the penalty.

Much of the public discussion assumes that if cases are still occurring then this must be evidence that Oxfam is still not taking action against misconduct.

LONDON Claims of sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, bullying, fraud, and breaches of safeguarding procedures detailed in a February letter to Oxfam chiefs had built up over years with an organisational culture that made it difficult – and dangerous – for employees to report misconduct, five whistleblowers who worked for Oxfam and who signed the letter have told The New Humanitarian. At a glance: Letter details misconduct claims at Oxfam’s office in Congo One senior male staff member allegedly boasted about visiting sex workers and had “inappropriate” relationships with interns or junior staff; he was also accused of sexually harassing female staff members.
