It Was 50 Years Ago Today Saturday, 28th Apr 2012 14:43 With it being the 50th anniversary of the Blues 1961/62 League Championship win, TWTD thought we d re-run our 2002 interview with John Elsworthy, who played at half-back in that great side. John, who picked up First, Second and two Third Division South winner s medals with Town, talked about that memorable season, Sir Alf Ramsey and the club s only championship-winning team. Sadly, John, who made 435 appearances and scored 53 times for Town between 1949 and 1964, passed away in May 2009, aged 77. Last year [2000/01] the entire world seemed amazed as Town came from promoted no-hopers to UEFA Cup qualifiers. There were similar expectations back in the summer of 1961.
