Petrol forecourt giant EG Group has swooped for restaurant chain Leon as it seeks to grow its non-fuel offering and expand the foodservice operation into healthy fast food.
The Issa brothers, who own the Blackburn-based group, as well as Asda following a £6.8bn deal last year, said Leon was a “fantastic” brand that they had long admired.
Following the acquisition for a reported £100m, EG plans to invest in the chain and broaden its current foodservice offering, which includes the likes of KFC, Subway, Greggs and Starbucks stores run from its petrol stations.

Thayne Valley Market, in partnership with Associated Foods’ Feeding The Hunger Campaign, recently donated a check for just under $1,000 to the Thayne Community Food Bank.
Brandon Carlson, Store Director, told SVI that vendor partners like Kellogs and General Mills donated a portion of their sales over a two week period. Valley Market customers were also given the opportunity to donate at the register.
“Ever since the inception of Valley Market, the store owner, Kip Wilkes, has partnered with the food bank,” said Carslon. “So when Associated Foods reached out to us and asked if we wanted to partner with them and with the food bank we absolutely took that opportunity.”

Thanks to the efforts of a local Army spouse, along with several companies, some residents of Killeen will receive donations of food and water following the recent weather system.
Dominique Owen, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, coordinated the delivery of a trailer full of donations â 32 pallets worth â which arrived at the Killeen Independent School District Warehouse on Thursday afternoon. Half of the trailer truck was filled with food and hygiene product donations, courtesy of Associated Foods, and the other half was full of palates of donated water, courtesy of Salt Lake City-based Back In Black Trucking, which Owenâs father, Dick Simon Jr., is the owner.
