TOLEDO, Ohio Just a day after it was learned that journalists at the Toledo Blade would be taking down their names from the publication for the rest of the week, Gov. Mike DeWine issued a statement that s tied to part of the journalists concerns.
The byline strike comes after what some of the journalists there call censorship of their reporting on the U.S. Capitol breach and after a Facebook post by a member of a powerful family in Toledo, which upset journalists at the city s largest newspaper.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Gov. Mike DeWine on Thursday distanced himself from one of his appointees, Susan Allan Block, after Block posted incendiary comments on social media supporting President Donald Trump’s false narrative about election fraud and calling Vice President-elect Kamala Harris a “whore.”
Those who stormed the Capitol Wednesday came from a pro-Trump protest and were instructed by the president to direct their attention on the Capitol. Elected officials and journalists who were in a joint session of Congress at the time entered a lockdown amid the chaos, postponing the certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral win, and when it was over, five people were dead.
The stealthy editing “waters down the truth of what happened on Wednesday and is a disservice to our readers,” the union said in a statement, which added the changes “are also done in a political climate where some are attempting to create misinformation about who was responsible for, and participated in, Wednesday’s chaos.”
Ohio Arts Council board member Susan Allan Block resigned Friday after social media comments surfaced in which she referred to the vice president-elect Kamala Harris as a whore and called for no peace during the U.S. Capitol riots on Wednesday.
DeWine announced Block s resignation early Friday afternoon without further comment. On Thursday, his spokeswoman had denounced the comments.
Block, of Toledo, was first appointed to the unpaid council, which allocates state and federal money to Ohio artists and arts organizations, in 2016 by then-Gov. John Kasich. She was reappointed by DeWine in July 2019 for a term that expires in 2024. DeWine, a Republican, supported Trump s re-election.
