The vaccination campaign against COVID-19 continued to move forward over the weekend, with a total of 2,828,484 doses of vaccine being administered across Quebec as of Sunday. This accounts for 32.8 per cent of total population of the province, or just under one in three people. In the Eastern Townships that figure reached 153,460 doses, or about 31 per cent of the regional population. The number of people who have received a second dose remains under one per cent at both the provincial and regional level.

On Sunday the Ministry of Health and Social Services added new emergency measures in five MRCs in the Chaudière-Appalaches region, one of which borders on the Estrie region. The MRCs of Beauce-Sartigan, Bellechasse, Les Etchemins, La Nouvelle-Beauce, and Robert-Cliche were shifted back to measures similar to those which were in place across the province at the beginning of the month of January, including a curfew in place between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., the closing of all elementary and secondary schools as well as all non-essential businesses, as well as a ban on the sale of items deemed non-essential, among other measures.

Quebec’s public health department is now listing a tally of COVID-19 variants confirmed in the province. As of Monday, there were 23 confirmed cases in Quebec, 20 of which are the B.1.1.7 or U.K. variant, two are B.1.351 or the South African variant, and one unspecified variant.
Of the cases, 19 were detected in Montreal, one in Laval, one in the Estrie and two were discovered in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region.
While the number of new variant cases remained stable at 23 in the last day, the number of presumptive cases across the province grew from 329 Sunday to 415 on Monday.
