Church House Blues is the 4th Blues album released by Crystal Shawanda, a former country music artist turned blues musician, with plenty of accolades behind her.
With her latest record, she’s earning even more well-deserved praise, thanks to a couple of Juno nominations, including for best Indigenous artist, as well as best Blues album.
In this interview, Crystal joins us from her home in Nashville Tennessee, where she’s been isolating with her family since leaving Canada a few months after the pandemic hit.
Not only will we get to find out what Crystal’s been up to since we spoke last summer, but we’ll also get to hear a couple of her favorite tracks from Church House Blues, including a very special cover of one of the Tragically Hip’s biggest hits.

Northern Ontario’s own Crystal Shawada is nominated, not for one, but two Juno Awards this year.
Shawada, who hails from Wiikwemkoong on Manitoulin Island has been nominated for Blues Album of the year, and Indigenous Artist of the Year for her album released last year titled Churchhouse blues.
