MORAG LINDSAY: Roll up your sleeves and at least give the rest of us something other than Covid-19 to think about

MORAG LINDSAY: Roll up your sleeves and at least give the rest of us something other than Covid-19 to think about There’s a phrase I couldn’t have pictured myself saying this time last year. Ah innocent days. Laptop balanced on my knee, head spinning, no idea what 90% of my colleague’s phone numbers were, never mind how to share my screen in a Microsoft Teams video conference call, or any of those other nifty technical skills that now occupy the brain space we used to waste on human contact. Like a stuck record, I wrote about the coronavirus – and wondered when there would ever be anything else going on in our lives

Obituary: Ian McLaren

A love of family, farming and friendship were the driving forces that prevailed throughout the life of Ian McLaren (71), of Cronan Farm, Coupar Angus, who died suddenly on February 5. It was a very fitting tribute, therefore, that his sons shared the driving of the Massey Ferguson 550 their father had used regularly to feed the cattle, for Mr McLaren’s final journey from Cronan to Kettins Church. Neighbours, friends and family were able to pay their last respects by the roadside as the tractor and trailer drove by. Mr McLaren spent the first 50 years of his life at Fintalich Farm, near Crieff, where he farmed in partnership with his cousins, Stuart and Jim. He was educated at Morrison’s Academy before attending agricultural college in Edinburgh.

It is the first outbreak at the 10-bed hospital since it was forced to temporarily close to admissions in response to a single case in late August. Ninety-three-year-old Barrie Thom died at the hospital after a short battle with the virus. It was the first Covid-related death in the Perth and Kinross area after nearly three months.
