Huge protest staged against alleged blasphemy in Buner

DAGGAR: Thousands of people staged a protest demonstration against the blasphemy allegedly committed by an Afghan national in Sowari Chowk on Tuesday.
According to details, a 22-year Afghan national identified as Momin Afghani, who is owner of a tandoor in Shoba Market near the City Police Station and currently living in Riga, has attempted to use derogative words against the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on Monday. Upon this, the local people gathered and tried to kill him.
However, the police arrested the accused and registered a case against him. The enraged people burnt tyres and threw stones at the police station at night to protest the incident. It was learnt that six policemen sustained injuries during the protest by the people. The news about the incident spread like a jungle fire and people from across the district started coming to the main business hub Sowari in the morning.
District Police Chief Killed in Paktika Blast
Juma Shah, the police chief for Sar Rawza district in Paktika, was killed and three of his security guards were wounded in a blast in the province on Tuesday night, local security officials said.
The incident happened when he was on the way to Dewana Baba area where Taliban attacked security forces, a local official said, adding that “the police chief wanted to support the forces in fighting against the Taliban.”
“But his vehicle was targeted by a roadside bomb,” according to the officials.
Taliban has claimed responsibility for the blast.

The Taliban militants launched massive offensive on checkpoints in Dewana Baba area of the restive district late Tuesday night, triggering heavy fighting which lasted for a couple of hours, the official said, adding that the district police chief Juma Khan was going to lead the war but a blast struck his van killing him on the spot and injuring two others.
