There’s plenty happening in May 2021 for Niantic’s mobile game. While there’s the X occasion today, there will be a Y occasion on May 18th with Yvetal. In addition, there’s also Giovanni to take down as per usual, and his line-up includes a Shadow Moltres.
New Pokemon Go Research Event Announced
Niantic announced the next
Pokemon Go Research Event this week and revealed that the May event will focus on Marill. The Water and Fairy-type Pokemon will be findable through a series of Timed Research tasks that may lead to people being able to catch a Shiny version of the Pokemon. Like the other Timed Research events, however, this one’s only going to be live for a couple of hours during one day of the month.
That day is May 9th, and the event will be live from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for players to complete their tasks and better their chances at finding a Marill or two. The Pokemon will be appearing more often anyways on that day, but if you’re completing your Field Research tasks, you’re guaranteed an encounter.
Pokémon is about catching ’em all, and in
Pokémon Go that means catching every variant, including rare Shiny versions of Pokémon. Every Tuesday in
Pokémon Go, players will see a specific Pokémon spawning more frequently during Spotlight Hour, which runs from 6 p.m. to 6:59 p.m. local time. Spotlight Hour is your chance to load up on Candy, a chance for high CP Pokémon, and, if you’re lucky, a Shiny Pokémon.
For May 4, 2021, Cottonee will be in the spotlight, and players will earn twice the Candy for catching Pokémon.
Sadly, Cottonee cannot be shiny in
Pokémon GO blog had to say about Marill Limited Research Day:
As Fairy-type Pokémon continue to appear more often in the wild during the Luminous Legends X event, you can look forward to a Limited Research event featuring the Water- and Fairy-type Pokémon Marill! On Sunday, May 9, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time, you can complete event-exclusive Timed Research tasks that lead to encounters with Marill. If you re lucky, you might even encounter a Shiny Marill! You ll also be able to complete event-exclusive Field Research tasks that lead to encounters with Marill.
For those who haven t played Limited Research Days before, they generally offer extremely high Shiny odds. With the exception of Community Days and Raid Days, these have historically seen the biggest boost to Shiny rates in the game. This is temporary of course, so the special green variant of Marill will only be easier to get during these hours.
