Plano ISD planning for full return to in-person classes in 2021-22 school year
A virtual academy may also be offered as a stand-alone option.

Plano ISD leaders are mapping out plans for the 2021-22 school year on the premise that everyone will be returning to campuses for in-person classes.
In addition to what is called the district’s “updated brick-and-mortar” plan, an online option may also be offered, Chief Operating Officer Theresa Williams told the school board during an April 20 meeting. The virtual academy, as currently envisioned, would be a stand-alone option with its own curriculum and staff, which would require state approval.

A school nurse and a Plano Police officer went viral after bringing a family of mallard ducks back to safety.
Heather Flores, a nurse at Plano Senior High School, said she was in a meeting Wednesday when she noticed a momma duck and her ducklings heading toward the street.

Plano AsiaFest, an annual celebration organized by the Celebrating Asian American Heritage Foundation, will take place online this year.
The family-friendly cultural festival will feature folk music, dance, martial arts, calligraphy, flower arrangements, origami and traditional Asian cooking from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 8.
Countries represented in the festival include Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Bangladesh, India and Nepal.

As much as $75 million in federal funding could be headed to Richardson ISD to help close student learning gaps brought on by the pandemic, the school board learned during its April 19 meeting.
The money would be part of federal stimulus funds for Texas schools. The district would use anywhere from $40 to $75 million it may receive in the 2021-22 budget.
