KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry (MOE) yesterday denied that a ‘SPM grading scale’ chart that has gone viral on social media is from the ministry’.

PETALING JAYA: Scrapping the centralised Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) exam is a positive move that will make learning fun again and lead to a more holistic development in children, say educationists.
Describing it as an “unnecessary” exam that has created a lot of stress for children, teachers and parents, Universiti Malaya Faculty of Education senior lecturer and teacher-trainer Dr Zuwati Hasim said UPSR was one of the daunting “high-stake exams” that primary pupils should not have to be burdened with.
“What is more important at primary level, ” she said, “is to develop interest in learning.

THE Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2020 exams start tomorrow and the Education Ministry assures parents that the health and safety of students is a priority.
Examinations Syndicate director Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali said the ministry issued revised guidelines on Feb 9 titled “School Management and Operations Under the New Norm 2.0”, which is an improvement of previous versions of the document.
While the basis of the guidelines remain the same, certain improvements were made based on the country’s current Covid-19 situation, he said.

With just a day to go before the much delayed exams begin on Monday (Feb 22), he said it is normal to feel anxious and worried.
“What’s important is how we manage this nervousness.
“It is time to keep calm as the exam date draws closer and recognise that the effort you put in is different from that of your peers.
“Just know that you have given your best effort at the end of the day, ” he said, reminding candidates that SPM is not the be all and end all of life.
