Medical providers in some states will be able to prescribe abortion pills through telemedicine appointments and through the mail, reversing a Trump-era policy.
On Monday evening, the Biden administration announced it would temporarily lift a restriction imposed by the previous administration that required abortion pills to be dispensed in person, CBS News reported.
Acting U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner Janet Woodcock announced the move in a letter to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists (ACOG), adding that her agency would “exercise enforcement discretion” when it comes to previous restrictions.
