St. George Falls in St. George. (Image: Brad Perry) John Detorakis is leading three candidates in the race to become the next mayor of St. George. Detorakis has 222 votes with 40 of 48 tabulators reporting, according to data on the Elections New Brunswick website. Sharon Tucker is in second place with 197 votes followed by incumbent Faith Avery with 137 votes. There are a total of 12 people vying for one of six council seats, including one incumbent. Barbara Rayner is currently in the lead (303), followed by Sam Rubin (299), Brenda Allison (286), Alexa Detorakis (282), Leslie Armstrong (281) and Nancy Coulton (237). While most New Brunswickers voted on May 10, those in the Edmundston-Madawaska region only voted on Tuesday.

Saint John councillor Donna Reardon. (Image submitted) Donna Reardon has a commanding lead that would see her become the next mayor of Saint John with 71 of 80 tabulators reporting. Reardon currently has 10, 089 votes, according to data on the Elections New Brunswick website. In second place Mel Vincent Jr. sits with 5,895 votes, followed by Darrell Bastarache with 466 votes and Howard Yeomans with 312 votes. Vincent’s campaign announced it had phoned Reardon to concede after the results were announced. Reardon said the feeling was ‘euphoric’ after seeing the large 4, 000 plus vote lead she had with results still coming in. “I’ve done a lot of work, a lot of hard work, so it’s a great feeling,” Reardon said.

After initial results were uploaded Tuesday, MacEachern is in the lead with 763 votes, according to results on the Elections New Brunswick website. His lone competitor, Vernon Card is trailing in the results with a total of 241 votes. All six of the town’s councillors were elected by acclamation. They include incumbents Phil Chisholm, Marg Harding, David Hyslop, Ken Parker and Ghislaine Wheaton, and newcomer Vic Thiessen. While most New Brunswickers voted on May 10, those in the Edmundston-Madawaska region only voted on Tuesday.
