The Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, has demanded an equal representation for women in elective positions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the ward level to the national level.
This submission was contained in the memorandum submitted to the APC Constitution Review Committee when she led a high-level women delegation to the party secretariat yesterday in Abuja.
The minister was accompanied by the United Nations Country Representative, Comfort Lamptey; Chairman, House Committee on Electoral Matters, Hon. Aisha Duku; representative of the 100 Women Lobby Group and other Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
The APC women, therefore, demanded that the party devote at least 15 percent of the partyâs annual budget to increase the participation of women politics.

THE Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, on Wednesday, led a high-powered delegation of women, to the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, to demand for a 50 per cent representation of women in leadership positions.
Tallen, who led the delegation to submit a memorandum to the APC Constitution Review Committee, noted that it was time the Nigerian the female gender was given its pride of place in the scheme of things both within the party and in government.
She said, “We demand affirmative action. You will agree with me that women toil and give the highest votes in all the elections. The absence of women in the party structure is what bothers women. We are here to demand for the amendment.
In commemoration of 2021 International women’s Day, Udora Orizu writes that the Federal Government should ensure inclusion of more women in leadership positions, towards attainment of the 35 percent affirmative action
Yearly on March 8, the International Women’s Day is celebrated globally and this year is no different. The annual celebration is marked today, Monday March 8, with the theme, ‘Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.’
The theme for this year is apt and timely as it shines the spotlight on the barriers women are often faced with numerous challenges from sexism to prejudice, stereotype, bias and discrimination, when it comes to occupying leadership positions.
