The Chief Executive for the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, (TMA), Mr Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, has stressed the need for members of the Sub-Metropolitan District Councils to rally citizens towards attitudinal change in the quest to make Tema clean.
He said despite the Assembly’s intervention to improve sanitation in the country, education remained critical to achieving the needed results
He said that last Wednesday at the inauguration of two Sub-Metropolitan District Councils in Tema.

The two Sub-Metropolitan District Councils, which were inaugurated at a brief ceremony, were the Tema Central and Tema East Sub-Metropolitan District Councils.
At the ceremony, 39 sub-metropolitan councillors were also sworn into office by the Tema District Magistrate, Mr Joseph McAli Junior.
Tema, Ghana’s most planned city, being the heart of the country’s development, at the onset of the country’s independence is gradually losing its pride due to indiscriminate development and encroachment within the Metropolis over the past few years.
Ghana News Agency Tema Team observatory tour discovered that the open stretch of land earmarked as greenbelts within the Metropolis to prevent neighbouring communities from merging into one another has been engulfed by industrialist, commercial unit owners and business centers.
Portions of the stretch, which initially served as playgrounds and recreation for the communities, have also been encroached upon by private developers who have erupted permanent structures on it.
The Tema Traditional Council (TTC) has initiated interview sessions with persons who are aspiring to be nominated as the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tema by the President in his second term.
The President is required by Article 243 (1) of the 1992 constitution and section 20(1) of the Local Government Act 936 to nominate district chief executive officers.
In all, a total of 11 people including the Mr Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La, the incumbent MCE of Tema, Dr Benjamin Ashitey Armarh and Mr Charles Forson, former aspirants for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries for Tema East and Tema Central respectively.
Nii Amarh Somponu II, Tema Shipi speaking on behalf of the Tema Traditional Council at the start of the one-week long engagement said this was the first time they were meeting with aspirants before making their choice known to the government.
