We need more protected spaces in Mesa County I am grateful that Denver Rep. Diana DeGette continues to champion for the conservation of public lands with the reintroduction of the Colorado Wilderness Act. In Sunday’s Daily Sentinel newspaper, Mesa County Commissioner Janet Rowland reacted to the introduction of the Colorado Wilderness Act with a misleading and inaccurate statement saying that protection of these lands would be a “slap in the face of people with disabilities because you can only access it if you’re able-bodied and can walk or hike.” I want disagree with her statement for the following reasons.

If Grand Junction Allows Marijuana Where Should the Money Go? Enter your number to get our free mobile app This has been a highly debated topic for years in Grand Junction. We have marijuana sales going on around us in Palisade, Parachute, and DeBeque but not in Grand Junction. There are many people that believe it should be sold in Grand Junction as we could use the benefit of the tax dollars toward our city. But what do you think the tax money made from marijuana should go towards? The reason I bring this up is that according to KKCO earlier this week at the city council meeting the topic was brought up. There has been an ordinance in place since 2011 banning the sale of marijuana in Grand Junction. But that could be overturned, and the council discussed how the city could properly control the sale, manufacture, and creation the marijuana.

Oil and gas wastewater spills in the Piceance Basin topped 700K gallons last year | Rio Blanco Herald Times | Serving Meeker, Rangely, Dinosaur & Northwest Colorado

Listen to this post RBC | About twice a week, oil and gas operators in Colorado’s Piceance Basin file “Form 19” also called a Spill/Release Report with the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC). Nine times out of 10, the spilled substance is a form of hazardous waste byproduct called produced water. For oil and gas industry advocates on Colorado’s Western Slope, its well known that business just ain’t what it used to be. “Just the entire oil and gas economy in the western slope has really taken a big hit,” says Brian Gallagher, principal for a small investment group focused on industrial water and sustainability.
