National Sports Authority boss, Professor Peter Twumasi The National Sports Authority boss, Professor Peter Twumasi has re-assured that the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi should be ready to host football matches soon, as renovation works near completion. The facility has been closed for renovation works for close to a year now, with work progressing at a snail’s pace. The situation has forced football clubs who use the facility to find an alternative venue as they anxiously wait for works to be completed. Asante Kotoko, King Faisal and Asokwa Deportivo for instance use different match venues for their respective home league games in the current campaign.

  Professor Peter Twumasi, formerly of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, has deduced that the recent rise in COVID-19 infections in Ghana is of no scientific novelty. He said the recent increment of the COVID-19 infections had been forecasted a long time ago; as like all winter flu diseases, Coronavirus infection was expected to intensify with the advent winter as temperature drops. Prof. Twumasi asserted that harmattan experienced in Africa during winter also induces colder temperatures as dust in the atmosphere reduces the sun’s radiation, this is why most countries currently dealing with the low temperatures, were recording high infections and deaths related to COVID-19.

Speaking on  Peace FM s  Kokrokoo , Henry Kokofu expressed worry over Ghanaians unseriousness to observe the protocols, hence resulting in further restrictions from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The President, delivering his 23rd update on COVID-19 on Sunday, January 31, 2021, has banned public gatherings and restricted private funerals to 25 people in attendance. The imposition of restrictions on our daily routines helped in reducing the prevalence of the pandemic in the country, and Government has been left with no option but to re-introduce some of these restrictions in order to help save the situation.I know these measures, in the recent past, were unpleasant, but, over a period, they resulted in a favourable situation for our country. We have to return to them.
