The Ozarks is in for some heavy rain this week.
Meteorologist Steve Lindenberg shared the forecast that includes several rounds of showers and thunderstorms throughout the week.
Monday already had light showers, but heavier rain is on deck Tuesday through Friday, said Lindenberg, who is with the National Weather Service’s Springfield office.
“It’s not going to rain continuous and there will be some breaks, but we are looking, throughout the week, at about an inch to two-and-a-half inches across the Missouri Ozarks,” Lindenberg said.
With heavier rain, there may be some worries for potential flooding; however, Lindenberg said there’s no anticipated wide-spread flooding at this time.
Tuesday brought record-breaking weather across the Ozarks.
Along with biting temperatures, the Springfield area experienced the most snow accumulation it has seen on April 20 since 1918, said Cory Rothstein, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
“This was the kind of snow that’s not really impactful on roadways,” he said in a phone interview. “Most of the accumulation was on elevated surfaces like decks and then also on grassy areas.”
The National Weather Service Springfield office has been recording weather since 1888. The best way to explain how current weather shapes up is to look at the past 133 years’ events, Rothstein said.
