Soaking Rain This Week May Bring Up To 3 Rain To The Northland

April showers bring May flowers, at least as the saying goes. However, it could bring some localized minor flooding this week as the Northland finally sees some much needed rain. Wildfire danger has been high as many parts of the Northland saw much less snowpack this year. That meant things dried up pretty quick. High winds and a mild march have already caused some grass fires across the Northland. One this last weekend north of Silver Bay led to officials closing a section of Highway 61 as they tried to get it under control. Another slow moving system is moving into the region Tuesday-Saturday (4/6-4/10) which has the potential to bring quite a bit of rain. The Twin Ports is expected to see 1.5-2.0 inches of snow. South of the Twin Ports could see as much as 2-3 inches. The Iron Range is expected to see 2-2.5 inches of snow.

The storm started around midnight and moved out of the region around 2 a.m. Patrick Ayd, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Duluth, said the region received anywhere from 0.31 to 0.84 inches of rain. Hail reports showed the size between a pea and nickel, he said.
