5 Things You Didn’t Know About New Paltz
New Paltz is one of my favorite towns to visit in the Hudson Valley. From the beautiful hiking trails to the unique restaurants and nightlife, there’s always something to get into. I have also enjoyed walking around and learning about the history within New Paltz. Besides the cool bars and shops along the streets, the views of the gunks are just incredible.
Here are some things that you may or may not have known about New Paltz.
There were settlers who resided in New Paltz before Henry Hudson.
We have heard stories about the infamous Henry Hudson and his adventures throughout the Hudson Valley in The Half Moon. Before Hudson touched land here, the Esopus Indian already made New Paltz their home. Take a stroll on Huguenot Street and see the re done hut/home that these Indians once lived in.
San Diego’s Historic Balboa Park Awarded LEED for Communities Certification

The Park becomes the only national historic landmark to be recognized for sustainability achievements through the United States Green Building Council s LEED for Communities and Cities certification.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said “Working together we’ve made sustainability part of the culture here in Balboa Park. Certification as a LEED community demonstrates that Balboa Park can be a catalyst for energy savings and other sustainability goals throughout the rest of the city.”
Derek Peck, the new manager for Madisonâs Lanier Mansion State Historic Site, has moved around several times in his career from Mississippi in the deep south to the redwood forests of coastal California â with even a stop at Hoover Dam in between â but after spending the past month at Lanier and in historic Madison, he has hopes of staying around for a long time.
âI love being able to focus on everything to do with this home and its mission. Itâs a gorgeous home in a gorgeous town,â Peck, who was named site manager last December, said. âMost importantly, (the Lanier Mansion) is a story of the Lanier generosity, and the opportunity to see the home, and how the family lived. Those are great reasons to come visit.â
