Wyoming s state archeologist to speak on Deer Creek burial site recovery Saturday

By Greg Hirst on May 25, 2021 Spencer Pelton , state archeologist (courtesy National Historic Trails Interpretive Center ) CASPER, Wyo   Wyoming State Archaeologist Spencer Pelton will give a special presentation on the Deer Creek Station military burial hosted by the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center on Saturday, May 29 at 1:00 p.m. The presentation is entitled, “The Deer Creek Station Military Burial: Urban Archeology in Glenrock, WY” will focus on the state archaeologist office’s work in 2020 recovering the site of the former U.S. military post located in the present-day town of Glenrock. The burials dated back to the mid 1860, the Trails Center said.

National Historic Trails Interpretive Center Expands Operating Hours

National Historic Trails Interpretive Center Expands Operating Hours CASPER, Wyo. – The National Historic Trails Interpretive Center is moving to new operating hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., seven days a week beginning Sunday. In addition to the new operating hours, a variety of education and interpretive programs and special events will be offered daily for the next several months. Experience living history programs about blacksmithing, Native American culture and art, the fur trade, music and much more.  All events are free.
