Deane among 10 Caribbean writers vying for top prize Article by The 2021 long list for the region’s only prize for emerging writers, the Johnson and Amoy Achong Caribbean Writers Prize (JAAWP), has been announced by the Bocas Lit Fest. Of the ten writers who have been longlisted for the third and last edition of the Johnson and Amoy Achong Prize, eight of them are from Trinidad and Tobago, one from Guyana and one from Barbados, the previous award-winning Linda Deane. This unique award is dedicated to advancing the work of an emerging Caribbean voice in the poetry genre; the 2019 and 2020 prizes were for fiction and non-fiction respectively.

Today our country is engaged in a reactionary, though periodical, cycle of coming out of our traditional caves and making a cry and plea for a better society.”

Tancoo: NLCB operating like ‘runaway horse’ Public Accounts Committee chairman Davendranath Tancoo. - Davendranath Tancoo, chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), says the NLCB (National Lotteries Control Board) is operating like a “runaway horse with no audit and accountability,” despite spending billions in recent years. He was speaking at a virtual PAC meeting on Wednesday morning. He said he “unfortunately” needed to reiterate certain issues as they are yet to be rectified. They include an outstanding audited financial statement that was supposed to be sent to the auditor general since 2013. In December 2019, he said, the NLCB was reminded of this and said it would be dealt with soon. But it still has not been sent.
