COVID Crisis Triggers Increase in Elder Abuse

COVID Crisis Triggers Increase in Elder Abuse Details Written by John Grimaldi Washington, DC - There’s been a worrisome increase in cases of elder abuse since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, reports the Association of Mature American Citizens. The senior advocacy organization’s CEO, Rebecca Weber, says the surge is mainly due to self-isolation and other preventative measures that are in place to combat the spread of the virus.” According to the Website, PubMed.Gov, “Before the COVID-19 pandemic, elder abuse affected one in 10 American older adults annually. It has been assumed that the pandemic has brought with it a surge in elder abuse due to individuals ordered to stay at home combined with increased interpersonal stressors.”

My aunt stole my mother's Social Security, and persuaded my elderly father to sign over power of attorney

The Moneyist My aunt stole my mother’s Social Security, and persuaded my elderly father to sign over power of attorney Published: Dec. 27, 2020 at 10:51 a.m. ET By Email icon Dear Moneyist, My mother’s sister is using my mother’s Social Security Number to avoid having to pay the Internal Revenue Service back taxes she owes. My aunt owes the IRS a bunch of money and believes the IRS would take it if it were in her name. She is currently receiving money under my deceased mother’s Social Security Number. My father was recently very sick and in the hospital, and he was not in his right mind. She somehow persuaded him to sign away power of attorney during the time he was in hospital. He thought it was 2058 and he was in jail. Obviously he had no idea what he was signing.
