Statehood proposals for the District of Columbia have been around for years. Today, however, we have a President pledged to support D.C. statehood. Congress is controlled by the Democrats, whose platform supports statehood. Eleanor Holmes Norton, the so-called non-voting delegate to the House of Representatives from D.C., has introduced a statehood proposal in the current session of Congress.

Philip Pohlmeyer, chief financial officer of JFCS of the Suncoast, is retiring after a 45-year career, including 18 years dedicated to serving nonprofit human services agencies.
He will stay on full time through the end of the year, and then continue to work at JFCS part time to ensure a smooth transition to a new CFO.
Pohlmeyer spent more than 20 years in a highly successful business career before rededicating his expertise to a life of nonprofit service.
Pohlmeyer earned an MBA from the Rutgers University School of Professional Accounting and his CPA designation while working at Deloitte, Haskins and Sells in its New York City office.

The donations to the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington and the YWCA of Central Virginia were not made available to The Washington Times.
Ms. Scott announced in a blog that a team selected organizations that have a “high potential for impact,” emphasizing leadership teams and documented history in addressing systemic problems, from food deserts to racial inequity.
