The Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana, Mr Daniel Sackey at the official press briefing of the 2021 World Malaria Day held on April 28, 2021, at the Ecobank Head Office auditorium under the theme “Zero Malaria, Draw the line against Malaria” said that it is an opportunity to evaluate the progress made so far.
According to him, Ecobank being a financial institution that is keen on impacting positively the health of people living in the communities it operates has partnered with the National Malaria Control Programme as it leads the fight towards the elimination of this endemic disease.
Addressing the stakeholders at the press briefing, Mr Sackey said that World Malaria Day affords the stakeholders in the fight against malaria the opportunity to evaluate their progress and strengthen their resolve in the fight against the disease that remains the highest cause of morbidity in Ghana.

“The COVID-19 pandemic may have impacted the delivery of services under our malaria elimination program, but this will not deter us from our vision of a malaria-free country,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said in a statement on Monday, April 26.
Based on the World Health Organization (WHO) global malaria report, the Western Pacific Region had an estimated 1.7 million cases in 2019 with 52 percent reduction in the number of deaths in about two decades.

Community Pharmacists seek equity in health sector

Pharmacists under the auspices of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, ACPN, have called for equity in appointments in the health sector, blaming the poor health system on what they described as ‘greed and avarice.
The pharmacists alleged that greed on the part of the professional group in the sector has continued to encourage the inequitable spread of privileges and resources of players in the sector to the detriment of consumers of health.
In a press statement made available to Good Health Weekly and tagged: “We Must Save the Health System in Our Country Now” and jointly signed by the National Chairman, Dr. Samuel Adekola, and the National Secretary, Pharm. Ambrose Ezeh noted that consumers of health had been short-changed by the Government and providers.

These gains that the country has chalked so far in relation to reducing the malaria burden could be attributed to the several malaria control interventions implemented in line with its National Strategic Plan.
