GPs warned on Wednesday that a “larger workforce” was needed for the vaccine roll-out as it emerged that the proposed volunteer army to deliver the Oxford Covid-19 jab has not materialised.
As the “game changer” vaccine was given the green light by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, AstraZeneca said 530,000 doses would be ready by January 4, with 3.5 million to follow within the month.
Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, insisted the number was “absolutely deliverable by the NHS” but serious doubts were raised about whether the roll-out could be scaled up as urgently as needed.
