The govt. must respond to concerns about demolitions in Central Vista redevelopment The Government of India’s Central Vista redevelopment project is highly questionable as a national priority at any time, and more so in the midst of a pandemic. The project includes the construction of a new Parliament building, and new residences for the Prime Minister and the Vice President. A new Parliament building is indeed required; and there is a strong case for reorganising the existing offices of the central government. However, the architecture and timelines of the redevelopment as it is happening now are less about the need and more about an imperious obsession with grandeur. The irony is that a colossus built amid the ruins of a pandemic could turn out to be a monument to the government’s disregard for public good. Northampton Police Station Published: 5/4/2021 9:34:35 PM A recent article in the Gazette, “Arts Council backs police cut,” (April 22), reported about a recent Northampton Arts Council discussion and the vote taken to support the three demands of Northampton Abolish Now (NAN). In the article, I was identified as the sole Arts Council member to cast a vote against supporting NAN’s demands. I’d like to take this opportunity to both explain my reasons for my vote and to urge the mayor and the Northampton City Council to ensure that the budget for fiscal 2022 includes funding to support meaningful steps for implementing the recommendation of the Policing Review Commission to establish a Department of Community Care or some comparable municipal structure.

Akufo-Addo issues directives on Ghana s earthquake preparedness and response – Ghana Visions

+ President Akufo-Addo on Thursday asked the Engineering Council of the Ministry of Works and Housing to conduct a comprehensive integrity audit of all public buildings to enable government to effectively plan for earthquakes and other natural disasters. He has also urged the Ghana Geological Survey Authority to give government the needed advice on its logistical needs and equipment to undertake round the clock monitoring of seismic activities for urgent action. The President made the call in Accra on Thursday when he opened a stakeholder conference on Ghana’s earthquake preparedness and response. The meeting was organised by the Ministry of the Interior on the theme: “Building Resilience to Earthquakes – A National Priority.”
