Nothing gets me going quite like the smell of smoked meats: ribs, brisket, chicken, you name it.
Sunday is National Barbecue Day, part of May’s National Barbecue Month, which honors barbecue in general (burgers and dogs on the grill, etc.), but here we’re talking traditional Southern barbecue, one of my three desert island foods, along with doughnuts and wings.
Back in 2015, I proclaimed that New Jersey is a barbecue wasteland. The outlook has improved slightly since then; there’s great barbecue in New Jersey, you just have to know where to look.

A new list ranking the best BBQ cities in America has many people scratching their heads

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. May is National Barbecue Month and online food magazine Chef’s Pencil released a list of its best and worst cities to get barbecue.
They probably didn’t know they’d be starting a war.
The rankings are based on TripAdvisor ratings of barbecue joints in the 75 largest cities.
To many people’s surprise, Virginia Beach is tied for third place on the list with New Orleans taking the top spot.

May is National Barbecue Month and rightfully so as the warmer temperatures and COVID-19 have Americans spending more time outdoors with family and friends. And the perfect way to spend a Louisiana weekend is having delicious BBQ hot off the backyard grill.
Each part of the country does BBQ a little bit differently and as you expect, here in Louisiana, we do just about everything differently including our BBQ. We like our BBQ tangy, bold and wet with a kick. Even though the dry-rub technique is not out of the question, most of us leave the dry-rubbing to Memphis.
