“You Fuckers Really Screwed This Up”: A Message from James Madison on the 2020 Electoral Count
What in the ever-loving spirit of Liberty have you fuckwads done with the Republic? I admit that we didn’t exactly set you up for success by creating the Electoral College. It was a dumb idea, I was against it before I was for it, and we had to change it almost immediately after we started using it.
But sweet Judy blue eyes, Americans! You, the Devil, and Ted Cruz found an entirely new way to shit the bed.
Personally, I thought the president should be elected by the great mass of the people. When I say “the people,” I mean
ALASKA VOTERS PASS RANKED CHOICE VOTING BUT SIMULTANEOUSLY INJURE BALLOT ACCESS
On November 3, Alaska voters passed Measure Two with 50.55% of the vote. It converts elections for partisan office, including president, to ranked choice voting. Unfortunately it also vastly stiffens the definition of a qualified party . And it restricts the November ballot for congress and partisan state office to only the top four vote-getters in the primary. Virginia may be on the verge of dropping out of the Electoral College, joining a National Popular Vote Compact in an effort to ditch a presidential election system critics say is outdated and undemocratic. Once enough states have joined the compact to reach 270 electoral votes, Virginia and other states that have signed on to the agreement would award electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote rather than the candidate who prevailed at the state level. So far, 15 states and the District of Columbia have joined the compact for a total of 196 electoral votes.
