By ELLEN NAKASHIMA AND GERRY SHIH | The Washington Post | Published: April 7, 2021 In a secretive military facility in southwest China, supercomputers whir away, simulating the heat and drag on hypersonic vehicles speeding through the atmosphere  missiles that could one day be aimed at a U.S. aircraft carrier or Taiwan, according to former U.S. officials and Western analysts. The computers are powered by tiny chips designed by a Chinese firm called Phytium Technology using American software and built in the world s most advanced chip factory in Taiwan, which hums with American precision machinery, say the analysts. Phytium portrays itself as a commercial company aspiring to become a global chip giant like Intel. It does not publicize its connections to the research arms of the People s Liberation Army.

Gov Kevin Stitt appoints Rick Nagel to OU Board of Regents pending Senate approval

Gov. Kevin Stitt announced the appointment of Acorn Growth Companies CEO and Managing Partner Rick Nagel to the OU Board of Regents on Tuesday morning.  According to a press release from the Governor’s office, if approved by the Oklahoma Senate, Nagel will serve a seven-year term expiring March 2028, replacing chair Gary Pierson.  Pierson was originally appointed in April 2019 to finish former regent Bill Burgess term after he died in February 2019. In an October 2019 lunch meeting including the seven regents, Anil Gollahalli, OU legal counsel; Drew Neville, contracted attorney; and Chris Purcell, board secretary, the OU Board of Regents selected Pierson to serve as chair effective March 2020.

Kevin Stitt’s fifth and latest appointee to OU’s seven-member board, Stitt’s office said Tuesday. Nagel is an alumnus of OU’s College of Engineering and a Norman resident whose appointment to the board must be approved by the state Senate.

Mar 11, 2021 Arthur Harold Gilmore, 89, passed away peacefully March 6, 2021 at his home in Gainesville, Virginia, with his wife, Nell and their three children, Barbara Grasso (Gary), Michael (Kathy), and Stephen (Nancy) by his side. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Katherine Burge (Brandon), Michael Grasso (Megan), Thomas Grasso, Mitchell Gilmore, and Trent Gilmore; seven great-grandchildren; and by his brother, Dale Gilmore (Ann). Art was preceded in death by his sister, Harriett Deissler (Howard). Arthur was born April 21, 1931 in Williamsport, to Paul and Harriett Gilmore. During his time at Williamsport High School he enlisted in the Naval Reserve and while in the Reserves decided to compete for an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. He graduated from Williamsport High School and Severn School in Severna Park, Maryland, in 1949. Arthur received his appointment and that summer reported to the Naval Academy.
