It is a new year, and living here in Solomon Islands, we have much to be thankful for. We all learnt important lessons from the COVID-19 crisis in 2020. But the challenges are far from over. This pandemic is affecting us all, but we can rise out of this by working together.

The Health Ministry’s medical analysts are under the suspicion that the present-day coronavirus could be related to the new variant of COVID-19. It was observed that transmission and the spread of the virus today, is totally different compared to the past.
According to research by Lancet, the oldest and the best-known general medical journal in the world, the new variant of the coronavirus is up to 70 per cent more contagious.
However, to confirm that it is the new variant in Bhutan, the Royal Centre for Disease Control (RCDC) will send samples to Bangkok for lab testing.

THIMPHU: Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, went into a complete lockdown on Sunday after a 25-year-old woman, who visited a flu clinic at the National Referral Hospital in the city, tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Prime Minister LotayTshering announced the lockdown within Thimphu city with immediate effect and asked everyone to remain home, reports Xinhua news agency.
Tshering said all outbound travellers from Thimphu are restricted and only emergencies and important movements into the capital city will be considered and allowed. He said the Health Ministry would be conducting intensive contact tracing. The lockdown is expected to enable health officials to trace and test all possible contacts.
