The development comes amid complaints from people who travel long distances to district offices for the service.
NRB Public Relations Officer, Norman Fulatira, said the bureau was fully aware of the challenges people go through when they want to register or renew their national IDs.
He said it was against this background that NRB would open centres in rural communities to bring the service to the people while also fast-tracking the process.
However, Fulatira could not disclose when the bureau would rollout the exercise, saying this will depend on availability of funds from the treasury.

According to Mkolimbo, NRB has never paid the rentals since it started occupying their space some two years ago.
The rentals have accumulated to about K120 million, she says.

Nkusa-Nkhoma addressing local farmers at Msengedzi Irrigation scheme said that it does not make any sense for people from rural areas to be renewing identity cards to access farm input.
“It is important that we talk about these things so we can ignite a national debate and I am sure Parliament will help to change this law,” said the deputy minister.
