World Bank, CBN fully funding six million meters – FG

Punch Newspapers Sections Published 26 June 2021 The World Bank and the Central Bank of Nigeria are fully providing funds for the estimated six million electricity meters required to close the metering gap in the Nigerian power sector, the Federal Government has said. It was gathered in Abuja on Friday that both institutions were currently deploying funds to close the gap in order to stabilise the sector and address its liquidity concerns. Latest document on the overview and progress of Nigeria’s power sector obtained from the Federal Ministry of Power showed that both partners were providing loans to operators in the sector for the procurement of the meters.

BEDC installs over 22,000 meters for customers The Punch Published 13 May 2021 The Benin Electricity Distribution Company Plc says it has installed more than 25 per cent of the 90,870 meters targeted for customers under the first phase of the National Mass Metering Programme. It said in a communiqué issued at the end of a Town Hall meeting titled ‘Facilitating metering and combating electricity theft in BEDC states’ organised recently by the Stakeholders Democracy Network for critical stakeholders in the electricity sector in Benin City, Edo State. The communiqué stated that the company would remove estimated billing for unmetered customers in its four franchise states of Delta, Edo, Ekiti and Ondo over a period of six months as part of the NNMP.
