Miguel Barnet is a poet, a storyteller, an essayist and an ethnologist who researches the different sources of Cuban culture, and one of his main works is Biography of a Runaway Slave. Barnet, who is the Honorary President of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), the 2002 International Book Fair of Havana was dedicated to him as an acknowledgement of his life and work.
