Why this Herefordshire church has just been given £10,000

A HEREFORDSHIRE church can finally get a new roof thanks to a share of a £483,000 payout from the National Churches Trust. A £10,000 grant from the National Churches Trust s Cornerstone scheme will help complete roof repairs at the Grade I listed St Barnabas church in Brampton Bryan, in north Herefordshire. The church, dubbed ‘The Puritans Preaching Box’, will be watertight again which will preserve its historic fabric. The church also received a £4,000 Wolfson Fabric Repair Grant from the Wolfson Foundation on the recommendation of the National Churches Trust. Broadcaster and journalist Huw Edwards, vice president of The National Churches Trust, said: The UK’s historic churches and chapels are a vital part of our national heritage and have done so much to help local people during the Covid-19 lockdown.

£10k boost to fund new roof for St Oswald s Church in York

A MUCH-loved York church is to share in a £463,000 cash boost to fund repairs to its building. A £10,000 National Churches Trust Cornerstone Grant will help fund renewal of the roof and repairs to the rainwater goods at the Grade II listed St Oswald’s Church in Fulford, making the building watertight and preserving its historic fabric. Broadcaster and journalist Huw Edwards, vice president of The National Churches Trust, said: “The UK’s historic churches and chapels are a vital part of our national heritage and have done so much to help local people during the Covid-19 lockdown. But to survive, many need to carry out urgent repairs and install modern facilities. The cost of this work is far beyond what most congregations can pay for themselves.

£10K boost for Workington church on at risk register

A West Cumbrian church has been awarded £10,000 from the National Churches Trust towards essential repairs. Our Lady and St Michael s in Workington will receive the National Churches Trust Cornerstone Grant, which will help fund urgent masonry repairs to window stonework and surrounds of two stained glass windows, as a first step in a programme of repairs to help take this Grade II listed church off the Heritage At Risk Register. John Garner, chairman of the Workington Stella Maris Project Group said they are delighted. He said: “The Workington Stella Maris Project Group is delighted that the National Churches Trust is able to support our project to restore the church, which is a superb community asset, to its former outstanding condition. Raising the money to repair the church is formidable task but the generous grant of £10,000 will enable us to protect some of the priceless stained glass.”
