A West Cumbrian church has been awarded £10,000 from the National Churches Trust towards essential repairs. Our Lady and St Michael s in Workington will receive the National Churches Trust Cornerstone Grant, which will help fund urgent masonry repairs to window stonework and surrounds of two stained glass windows, as a first step in a programme of repairs to help take this Grade II listed church off the Heritage At Risk Register. John Garner, chairman of the Workington Stella Maris Project Group said they are delighted. He said: “The Workington Stella Maris Project Group is delighted that the National Churches Trust is able to support our project to restore the church, which is a superb community asset, to its former outstanding condition. Raising the money to repair the church is formidable task but the generous grant of £10,000 will enable us to protect some of the priceless stained glass.”
Widnes church given funding boost to create new community space A CHURCH in Widnes has been given a vital payout from the National Churches Trust. The £15,000 National Churches Trust Cornerstone Grant will help fund the installation of a new toilet at St Paul’s church in Widnes and create a space that allows the church to serve its community. Broadcaster and journalist Huw Edwards, Vice President of The National Churches Trust, said: “I’m delighted that St Paul’s church in Widnes is being helped with a £15,000 National Churches Trust Cornerstone Grant. The grant is an early Christmas present for the historic church and will facilitate the project and will help secure the future of this important local building.”

A MUCH-LOVED Oxfordshire church is set to get a Christmas funding boost. St Michael and All Angels church in Clifton Hampden is to share in a £483,000 funding payout from the National Churches Trust. The church will receive £10,000 from the National Churches Trust Cornerstone Grant which will help fund a project to recover the stone slate roofs of the Grade II listed building. Christopher Purvis, Church warden at St Michael and All Angels said: “Small churches such as ours face considerable challenges in maintaining the fabric. The support of the National Churches Trust is of the greatest importance in terms of both the valuable funding received and the encouragement and advice given.”
