Students win laurels

112 Shooter Mehak qualify for Nationals It is a proud moment for St Vivekanand Millennium School, HMT Township, Pinjore, as Mehak Mehra, a student of Class IX has been selected for the nationals in the 40th North Zone Shooting Championship under 10m air pistol. She also qualified for India trial. This championship was held between the National Rifle Association, Govt of India and the Rajasthan Rifle Association at Jagatpura, Jaipur. Only 335 points were required to qualify for the first round but she performed remarkably and scored 357 points in the qualifying round. It’s all due to her hard work, diligence, and dedication that she reached to such a great pinnacle at this young and grooming age. Principal Piyush Punj congratulated Mehak and her parents on this commendable achievement. He appreciated the efforts of her father, who is also her mentor and played a crucial role in attaining this position. Mehak and her family thanked the school management for lending a helping hand

For that reason some of the best games over the last week were from teams in the latter half of the top-25.  One of those teams was Seton Hill which climbed back in the IWLCA National Rankings for the first time in over a year, to No. 24, with a 15-12 victory over No. 23 Mercyhurst and took over first in the PSAC West. Pace was the other large riser during the week, going from 24 to 18 by improving to 4-0 with an impressive 19-8 victory over nationally ranked New Haven and a 22-8 win over AIC. Bentley was the only other team with significant movement, going from 17-14 following a pair of victories to start its year, including a win over New Haven. Mount Olive did move up two spots to No. 17 as the Trojans improve to 7-1 on the year.

In game one, the Bears scored three runs in the 6th to came away with a 6-4 win. In the night cap, the Bears were held to one hit in a 2-1 loss. In game one, after the Trojans scored in the second, the Bears answer back with a Talon LaClair bases-clearing double to give the Bears a 3-1 lead. The Bears held the lead until Anderson scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the 5th including a two-out, two-run double.
