Kader Attia is a contemporary Algerian-French artist whose work draws from his experience living in two different cultures. As in his other works, Attia’s installation
Ghost (2007), employs unconventional sculpture materials to symbolize how non-Western people create identities within European culture. “I try to trigger a political feeling in the viewer. My job is like all of us confronted with reality,” he has said. “What interests me is when a work poses a political question not only from a linguistic point of view, formal, but more from an ethical point of view.” Born on December 30, 1970 in Dugny, France, Attia spent his childhood living between the suburbs of Paris and in Algeria. He went on to study at the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. .-Carvalho Park announces the first exhibition of Paris-based artist, designer and architect, Garance Vallée, in the United States. Portrait de Famille, a solo exhibition, features a suite of paintings, drawings and sculptures of Vallées distinct and indelible language. Portrait de Famille, is on view at Carvalho Park in Brooklyn until March 20.
Vallées scenes are an invitation into her singular vision. Of an articulated Surrealist doctrine, these interior spaces are suspended between representation and non, volume and silhouette, tangibility and fiction, inquiry and play. These are inhabitable, contemplative spaces, filled with precise forms. At once environment and still life, Vallées scenes tilt towards abstraction as forms oscillate between two and three-dimensionality. Vallées objects tempt us to pluck them from the picture

Minestrone Soup alla Victory
16 oz crushed tomatoes
Bundle of escarole
1. Chop squash, zucchini, carrots, and onion.
2. Sautée chopped vegetables in the EVOO until tender.
2. In your stock pot combine the chicken stock, sautéed vegetables, beans, crushed tomatoes, pepper, and salt
3. Simmer for an hour to an hour and a half
4. Add fresh peas and escarole, simmer for another 10-15 minutes.
5. Serve with fresh grated parmesan cheese and crushed red pepper.
