Newark among Best Communities for Music Education

Newark among Best Communities for Music Education COURTESY OF BRENDA SCHOOL The National Association of Music Merchants designated Newark Central School District as one of the Best Communities for Music Education in the U.S. for the ninth year in a row. Now in its 22nd year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation goes to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.  To qualify, NCSD answered questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities and support for the music programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by the Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

Alle-Kiski Valley districts earn national recognition for music education

The Alle-Kiski Valley is alive with the sound of music. Five Valley school districts have been recognized by a national organization for their commitment to music education. Burrell, Kiski Area, Fox Chapel Area, Freeport Area and Plum Borough were among 686 school districts named best communities in the nation for music education by the NAMM Foundation. The NAMM Foundation recognized the schools for their outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 22nd year, the designation is awarded to districts that show outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students, according to a news release. An additional 80 schools, including Propel Schools-East in Turtle Creek, received the Support Music Merit Award, which goes to qualifying charter, private and parochial schools.

Wichita Falls ISD garners honor for music education

Wichita Falls ISD has earned national recognition as one of the country s 2021 Best Communities for Music Education, according to a media release.  This is the fourth year for the district to receive the honor from the charity arm of the National Association of Music Merchants, WFISD officials said.  “We feel very fortunate to live and work in a community that values Fine Arts education for our students,” Kelly Strenski, WFISD director of fine arts, said in a media release from the NAMM Foundation.  “This distinction fills our music department with pride, knowing that the hard work our music stakeholders put into quality music education is recognized, Strenski said. 

Several area schools deemed best communities for music education by national group

Several school districts in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties were named among best communities for music education by a national organization. Allegheny County districts that received the recognition include Avonworth, Baldwin-Whitehall, Chartiers Valley, East Allegheny, Fox Chapel, Gateway, Mt. Lebanon, North Allegheny, Plum, Upper St. Clair and Woodland Hills. Westmoreland County districts include Burrell, Franklin Regional, Greater Latrobe, Hempfield, Kiski Area, Mount Pleasant, Norwin and Yough.
