Pro Act threatens small business recovery

Pro Act threatens small business recovery (Deposit Photos/Air Done) After reading a recent op-ed in the Arizona Capitol Times by Samuel Sprague (Contact Sinema, Kelly; support the Pro Act), we thought we’d give a different perspective and show the dangers of the PRO Act on the economy of Arizona.  Small and independent businesses across the state are still struggling to recover from the economic fallout of the pandemic. The road to recovery for small businesses has been a long and uneven one, due to varying government-mandated regulations on different industries and in different localities. Now, legislation in the U.S. Senate poses a potentially even larger threat to Arizona businesses than the pandemic.

Transitory Or Not: Three Factors Will Determine If Skyrocketing Prices Are Here To Stay

by Tyler Durden Transitory or not transitory, that is the question. The challenges from cracking supply-chains and the resulting strain on production and inventory are being felt widely. If you are looking to furnish a home, you have probably dealt with major delays in the delivery of your new sofa and may instead be sitting on beanbags. If you are looking to buy a car, you might be walking out with the sticker price and the wrong color. And good luck if you are trying to rent a car: if only Hertz had waited a year to file for bankruptcy it would be worth tens of billions today.

Lafourche-area businesses grapple with labor shortage

Big Mike’s BBQ owner Mike Lewis said he was forced to make a tough decision last month. There were plenty of customers visiting his Houma location but not enough workers to serve them, he said. Though business was booming, Lewis temporarily closed the Houma restaurant at 3034 Barrow St. to combine manpower with his Thibodaux location at 120 Laura Drive.  “We just don’t have as many employees as we would like,” he said. “We want to provide great service, but both restaurants were not staffed as well as we liked so we consolidated. Now we’re totally staffed in at least one of them.”

Struggling States Try To Save Small Businesses Since McConnell Isn t Letting Congress Do It

The face of pure evil. Image from: Screengrab Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell continues to prevent COVID-19 relief because he insists that big business needs to be let off the hook for endangering and potentially killing their workers and customers. That s the poison pill he insists on being in any package. But that s not his only demand: He also wants to prevent state and local governments from getting any further assistance that blue state bailout that he talked about last spring and summer before he gave up that framing. Now he just refuses to allow it, but without the incendiary language to justify his obstruction. As the bipartisan negotiations for help teeter because of McConnell s intransigence, states are trying to save small businesses on their own while at the same time bleeding jobs.
