SCVNews com | L A County Sheriffs to Host Child Abuse Prevention Seminar

Officials in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be hosting a virtual community discussion on child abuse prevention April 20. Sheriff Alex Villanueva will be joined by other officials to discuss child abuse prevention with the community during a virtual event as April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Along with Villanueva will be LASD Capt. Michael Hannemann, Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Hatami, Karen Imagawa, chief of staff at L.A. Children’s Hospital, and Patricia Wenskunas from Crime Stoppers. The discussion will include ways to spot child abuse and how to prevent it from occurring, as well as resources available through the county and Sheriff’s Department.

Lafourche Parish DA’s Office marks beginning of National Child Abuse Prevention Month Members of the Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s Office placed blue pinwheels in the grass of the Children’s Advocacy Center Thursday morning to mark the beginning of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Blue pinwheels have been used as a symbol for Child Abuse Awareness Month since 2008 when Prevent Child Abuse America used them as part of their awareness campaign after research found that people associate pinwheels with childlike whimsy and lightheartedness, officials said.  The pinwheels are also a symbol of the hope that all children grow up happy, healthy and prepared to succeed, District Attorney Kristine Russell said.
