(WTOC) - You might have seen a lot of blue this month. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Coastal Children’s Advocacy Center is one of several organizations in Chatham County specifically helping children suffering from abuse. Executive Director Rose Grant-Robinson says in 2020, they saw over 260 children between the ages of three and 18 who had been physically or sexually abused. “These are the ones that have reported,” said Grant-Robinson. Of those who reported, only 15 children were Hispanic.

To celebrate the milestone, the local nonprofit held an open house on April 14, showcasing its newly decorated family visitation facilities. The open house coincided with National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Apr 17, 2021 WHEELING Since 2010, the Ohio County Partners in Prevention Team has recognized three Champions of Children in April as part of National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Although COVID-19 derailed last year’s awards, the team has adapted this year’s ceremony to be held remotely on the Ohio County Family Resource Network Facebook page at 2 p.m. Friday, April 23.
