Bayer’s Phase III cardiovascular outcomes study FIGARO-DKD, evaluating the efficacy and safety of the investigational drug finerenone versus placebo when added to standard of care in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) has met its primary endpoint. Monday, May 10, the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) is highlighting patients living with a condition called lupus nephritis (LN), which is a kidney disorder. LN causes inflammation (swelling or scarring) of the small blood vessels that filter waste in the kidneys and is one of the most common yet dangerous complications of lupus. Lupus is a chronic, complex autoimmune disease that turns the immune system against the body causing inflammation that can harm multiple organs such as the kidneys, brain, heart, lungs, blood, skin, and joints. Due to the many challenges in diagnosing lupus, it s estimated that this disease impacts 161,000 to 1.5 million people.
