National Telecom (NT) needs to partner with SET-listed satellite service provider Thaicom, allowing it to operate the Thaicom 4 and 6 satellites after the firm s 30-year concession ends in September, says Digital Economy and Society (DES) Minister Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn. Mr Chaiwut said the type of pact remains unsettled, as it could be an employment contract, partnership deal or outsourcing agreement. Thaicom operates broadband satellite Thaicom 4 and broadcasting satellite Thaicom 6 through a revenue sharing concession regime. Ownership of the two satellites is slated to be transferred to the DES Ministry after the concession ends on Sept 10. As the operational life of the two satellites can continue beyond the expiry of the concession, the ministry has the right to maintain operations.
