Nigeria remains a country of countless contradictions. Impressive and daring citizens on one hand, yet a shockingly unimpressive leadership on the other. When ‘we the people’ clamour for ‘good governance’, it’s not just a mantra. Why can we not implement seemingly simple yet reasonable strategies? Good governance is neither just an idea nor an elusive ideal. In its most simplistic and humane sense, it is small everyday steps, taken for the benefit of all citizens, and encapsulated by sensible action and empathy. Another way to say that is that leaders ought to develop policies and act based on a true understanding of the plight of the common citizen with a commitment to ease it. Finito! Not too much to ask, is it?
BabandedeAdamu Yakubu is Nigerien national trading on petty items in Kano. The 35-year-old foreigner explained to The Guardian how he came into Nigeria seven years ago without any document. Yakubu narrated how he usually bailed himself out at the Nigerian borders with N3, 000 or more to immigration officers at the entry point.

(ANTARA/HO-Presidential Staff Office/am) Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief of Presidential Staff, Moeldoko, has explained 12 points of action that will be carried out by the National Strategic Team for Corruption Prevention (Stranas PK) in 2021-2022. The team in the year of 2021 to 2022 will focus on 12 actions within three focus sectors and will be more output-, outcome-oriented compared to the year prior, he said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Stranas PK is a national policy aim that focuses on corruption prevention, and is referred to by ministries, bodies, and regional governments in preventing corruption in Indonesia, based on Presidential Decree number 54 of 2018.
