A patient at Decatur Morgan hospital had a severe allergic reaction to the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday and is recovering, according to the state’s department of public health.
“The patient was immediately treated with anaphylaxis protocol at Decatur Morgan Hospital where the vaccine was administered,” the department said in a press release Wednesday.

The Alabama Department of Public Health says a person who received the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine at Decatur Morgan Hospital suffered a severe allergic reaction. Remember no one s ever taken COVID-19 vaccine until recently so we would not know if they had a history of allergy to COVID-19 vaccine because again this is the first time we have ever administered this in the United states, but if you have a previous history of anaphylaxis to another biological, this is what is categized as a precaution and by that persons need to be aware that there is a potential risk of allergic reaction, said Dr. Karen Landers, with the Alabama Department of Public Health.

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WAFF) - “I really didn’t take it that serious, and I should’ve taken it more seriously than I did,” Joey Clark said.
At the beginning of December, Morgan County Sheriff’s Investigator Joey Clark tested positive for COVID-19.
”At 47-years-old, I’d never thought it would’ve taken me down that quick,” he explained.

DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - It’s been one week since the Pfizer vaccine made its way to north Alabama.
According to Dr. Karen Landers with the Alabama Department of Public Health, on Dec. 22nd, one person who received the vaccine at the Decatur Morgan Hospital experienced anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction, several minutes after taking the vaccine.
The patient requires post-vaccine observations and was immediately treated with anaphylaxis protocol at the same hospital.
