COVID numbers in northern Michigan are continuing to improve –that’s according to Munson Healthcare.
The hospital system says numbers are trending in the right direction. Case counts and hospitalizations are down again this week. Dr. Christine Nefcy is the Munson Healthcare Chief Medical Officer. She says, “We are doing much better than we had been the last few weeks… we’re happy to be heading in that right direction.”
Meanwhile local health departments say they’re taking vaccine clinics on the road – spreading out to more satellite locations, like township halls, businesses, even local festivals. District Health Department #10 Medical Director Dr. Jennifer Morse says, “We’re happy to partner with any area festivals, or area events, or after church. Anything really where people might want to have vaccinations offered.” She adds, “We are ready to travel to wherever people are ready to get vaccinated.”

Munson Healthcare says once again, cases continue to rise throughout northern Michigan. Overall case numbers are up and hospitalizations are also increasing. Munson hosted its weekly community update with several local health departments.
Grand Traverse Co. Health Department Health Officer Wendy Hirschenberger says, “We currently have the most active cases we’ve ever had in the community at 1,240.” Grand Traverse County is seeing a new high for active cases. Numbers appear to be leveling off, but it may be too soon to tell. “Our metrics are still high, but they’ve stabilized…. We’ll have to see over the next week or two if that is a trend or not.”

Some 19% of people living in Chippewa County are fully vaccinated as of March 23, according to data from the Minnesota Department of Health.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers someone fully vaccinated two weeks after they ve been given a single-dose shot (Johnson & Johnson) or a second shot (either Pfizer or Moderna).
Minnesota reported 507,231 total cases of coronavirus, an increase of 2% from the week before.
The five counties with the highest percentage of their population fully vaccinated in Minnesota as of March 23 are Traverse County, Olmsted County, Big Stone County, Mahnomen County and Cook County.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. â A lawsuit filed against a Traverse City commissioner after he showed a gun during public comment says Commissioner Ron Clous threatened First Amendment rights and caused emotional injury to the woman who had spoken just before the incident.
