The Invercargill deputy mayor believes Sir Tim Shadbolt needs to respond to questions about his driving status. On Wednesday, Mayor Shadbolt was being driven around in the mayoral car by his partner, Asha Dutt after the car had been parked beside the council office in Esk St. Shadbolt did not return any phone calls, texts or emails from Stuff asking him to explain if someone else was driving him in the mayoral car and, specifically if he is legally able to drive or if his licence has been suspended.

Bluff s swimming pool needs $1 4m upgrade during next decade

Council s external appointee and governance group chair Jeff Grant, Cr Rebecca Amundsen, and chief executive Clare Hadley fronted media on Friday. They stressed the introduction of the media protocols was not a case of muzzling elected members. They did not agree that the protocols put further restrictions on elected members’ ability to speak openly in the public. Grant did acknowledge there were others who felt the wording of the protocols inhibited what elected members could say in the future.
