Williamstown Zoning Board Contemplates Cost of Denying Cell Tower Permit

If enough roadblocks are put before the petitioner, eventually the carrier says, Forget it, throws their hands up and walks away from the project, ZBA Chair Andrew Hoar said. But it is my understanding the carrier also gets a certain amount of pressure from the FCC to provide coverage in underserved areas?   So, if not now, at some point, and I don t know when, the federal government steps in and says, There will be a tower here, and it will be this.     Unfortunately, what happens in that scenario is then the attorneys get involved, Ciolfi said. I think this board has been very reasonable, and I enjoy working with you on this. But, unfortunately, at some point, if there is a denial, if there is not a solution, unfortunately sometimes we have to go to court. Sometimes, we ll let the judge decide.

Williamstown s Net Zero Effort to Be Subject of Panel Discussion

Included on the warrant for June s annual meeting is a resolution calling on the town to commit to pursuing a net zero greenhouse gas emissions goal.   Members of the town s Carbon Dioxide Lowering (COOL) Committee, which drafted the resolution, first presented the idea to the board last month. On Monday, the Select Board discussed the proposal during a review of the warrant s first draft. And next week, the whole town is invited to a virtual panel discussion on the initiative with state Sen. Adam Hinds, D-Pittsfield.   This basically says that Williamstown should pursue a net zero goal consistent with the limits established by the commonwealth, Town Manager Jason Hoch advised the board. The intent here is to actually do the local plan rather than having something foisted on us by the state.

Williamstown Fire District Building Committee to Choose Owner s Project Manager

Building Committee Chair Elaine Neely on Wednesday reported to the Prudential Committee that her panel received nine responses to the request for qualifications issued by the district and conducted interviews with three finalists last week.   Representatives from Construction Monitoring Services, Colliers Property Management and the Architectural Consulting Group met for about an hour apiece over Zoom with the Building Committee, which includes the representatives from the district and the community at large.   All three of the finalists have experience managing public safety building projects, including one, ACG, which served as the OPM on the recently completed Williamstown Police station.   It was not the only finalist to post local experience. Colliers served as OPM on Berkshire County projects that include the new Williams Inn and, as Strategic Building Solutions, Colegrove Park Elementary School in North Adams.
