Even when Denny Valerioâs work week is through, the hard work continues.
For the past year, he has spent most of his days off helping to renovate his future house in the 400 block of East Strawberry Street for himself and his two daughters, Davina, 5, and Dayanara, 11. They hope to move in by June, when the house â underwritten by Lancaster Lebanon Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial â will be dedicated at a celebration, perhaps on the porch because of the pandemic.
In the meantime, Valerio and his daughters live with his mother, Bertha Valerio, stepfather, Basilio Castro, and four other relatives in a house nearby on Highland Avenue, where there arenât enough beds and only one bathroom.

The York County coroner has been called to the scene of a crash on Interstate 83 on Sunday, according to the York County 911 media log.
The crash was reported just after 4 p.m. Sunday on I-83 northbound, between the South Queen Street exit and the South George Street exit, according to the log.
All northbound lanes of the interstate are closed between Leader Heights Road and South George Street, according to 511PA.com, which is run by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The highway remained closed after 9 p.m. on Sunday.
Interested volunteers do not need to signup but simply show up at 8 a.m. in the parking lot behind the police department located at 205 E. King Street. Trash pick-up tool, gloves, trash bags and buckets will be provided with limited availability. Volunteers are encouraged to bring some additional supplies if they can.
The cleanup will focus on East Bright Street and Shine Street area, and South Queen Street to Adkin Street.
“It’s just an area where we see a large amount of trashing,” Goyette said. “People can take pride in their community, and we want people to be willing to come out and want to be part of this.”
